Here are some cool lyrics to some songs. My all-time favorite is the first one…I’ve used this one over and over whenever at work and in our world. I could have filled this up with Dylan lyrics but I wanted to spread the wealth.
Meet the new boss/same as the old boss…The Who (No truer words have been spoken)
And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make…The Beatles
I saw her from the corner when she turned and doubled back
And started walking toward a coffee-colored Cadillac… Chuck Berry
And I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time…Jimmy Webb
You can blow out a candle but you can’t blow out a fire…Peter Gabriel.
Shake the hand that shook the hand of P.T. Barnum and Charlie Chan… Grateful Dead
I wasn’t looking too good but I was feeling real well… Rolling Stones
But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die… Johnny Cash
We learned more from a three-minute record, than we ever learned in school…Bruce Springsteen
The silence of a falling star lights up a purple sky… Hank Williams Sr.
I just spent 60 days in the jailhouse/for the crime of having no dough…The Band
I drank enough whiskey to float a battleship around… Lynyrd Skynyrd
I blew out my flip-flop stepped on a pop-top/cut my heel had to cruise on back home… Jimmy Buffet
She knows there’s no success like failure and that failure’s no success at all… Bob Dylan
Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then… Bob Seger
In Jersey, anything’s legal, as long as you don’t get caught… The Traveling Wilburys
You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself…Ricky Nelson
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain and celluloid heroes never really die… Kinks
Good one!

I like the way you omitted the song titles. Had to look up Traveling Wilburys one.

Yea I don’t know if it was laziness or I thought I would treat it like a quote…. Which I ended up doing. There will be some googling today lol.

Ah no truer words have been spoken about meet the new boss same as the ol boss. One of favourite lyricists was Bon Scott as he was very clever with this writing..like this one….
“Ladders and snakes
Ladders give, snakes take
Rich man, poor man, beggar man thief
You ain’t got a hope in hell, that’s my belief
Fingers Freddy, Diamond Jim
They’re getting ready, look out I’m coming in
So spin that wheel, cut that pack
And roll them loaded dice
Bring on the dancin’ girls, and put the champaign on ice I’m goin’ in to sin city
I’m gonna win in sin city
Where the lights are bright
Do the town tonight”

I enjoyed reading through your list. Good ones! I can’t disagree with your #1 at all. Is this going to be a series where you keep adding to your list?

Yes… I’m going to keep it going. I had these saved up for a long time.

What I great topic for I post. And one, I should add, where I’d be extremely challenged.
The truth is while I’ve come a long way since I started my music journey close to 50 years ago when I literally didn’t understand a word of English, to this day, I primarily pay attention to melody, sound, rhythm and singing. Oftentimes, lyrics come last.
That said, one of my favorite lyrics of all time of course has to come from a Beatles song: The farther one travels/The less one knows/The less one really knows…
So much wisdom in these words. They also perfectly describe my experience when it comes to music blogging!
Another lyric I also really dig is by that other British band, is: I said I know it’s only rock ‘n’ roll but I like it/I said I know it’s only rock’n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do…

That is a great lyric by George! I may have it in part II.
Yea you had the language barrier to get over so I do see why that happened.
I love that Stones lyric as well…I did have “The Sunshine Bores the Daylights out of Me”

I guess I should really start paying closer attention to lyrics!

Yea and he was going to leave that out of the song….he didn’t think it was good. I sure can relate to that lyric.

Great idea and some great examples…. I wouldn’t have thought of the Peter Gabriel one from ‘Biko’ but it’s a fantastic example. It’s a wonderful topic, but there are so many to choose from! I might come up with my own list sometime.

Yea do that! I’m going to put out part 2 within a few weeks. Dave I honestly didn’t think people would be this much into it…so yea I loved making the post so I’ll do it again.

it’s a great topic that obviously resonates. I might think about making something along those lines a future Turntable Talk topic

“Meet the new boss/same as the old boss”…you are quite correct, sir. There could not be any truer words. Few constants in life, but this one is. I like the Seger selection the best – so true in certain situations.

The Seger line is great and I can relate to that now and I could when I was 20… but much more now!

Good quotes and kickass pics, Max. “Whatever gets you through the night” is one I use a lot. There are so many good lines from songs you should be able to keep this going indefinitely.
