Sorry if you have seen this twice but it only posted for a second and then vanished.
I usually feature originals but I found this video of John covering Slippin and a Slidin’ that I never have seen before and I had to include it. My son listened to John Lennon’s Rock and Roll album (made up of entirely covers of mostly 50s Rock and Roll) and he flipped over it. Afterward, he played it so much I relistened to it and John’s love of that music really came through.
The song was on the Rock and Roll album released in 1975. I could listen to John sing the phone book.
The album made it to #6 in the Billboard 200, #6 in the UK, and #5 in Canada. Stand By Me made it to #20 in the Billboard 100. John Lennon did not make another album until Double Fantasy in 1980.
Slippin’ and Slidin’
Slippin’ and a slidin’, peepin’ and a hidin’, been told long time ago,
Slippin’ and a slidin’, peepin’ and a hidin’, been told long time ago,
I been told, baby, you been bold, I won’t be your fool no more.
Oh, big conniver, nothing but a jiver, done got hip to your jive,
Oh, big conniver, nothing but a jiver, done got hip to your jive,
Slippin’ and a slidin’, peepin’ and a hidin’, won’t be your fool no more.
Oh Malinda, she’s a solid sender, you know you better surrender,
Oh Malinda, she’s a solid sender, you know you better surrender,
Slippin’ and a slidin’, peepin’ and a hidin’, won’t be your fool no more.

This is such a good album. Amazing when considering the back story with Spector, the “lost weekend,” etc.

With the pistol and hiding the tapes. Bailey likes many of these better than the originals…I wouldn’t go that far except on Stand By Me.

That was from his May Pang period, which might have been his best musically. Personally, I’m not sure, although this was when he and Julian reconciled. He was a hell of a rocker, that’s for sure.

It really is… His version of Stand By Me is my goto version. He really cared about this music and wanted to do it right.

Always dug this album. John Lennon was a cool rock & roll singer!

Sounds good. It would be a fun jam session to be there live with them.

Love this entire album, and the fact that he was quite drunk for most of the recording…

Not to mention Phil Spector waving a pistol around and then running off and hiding the tapes.

An ok record- I don’t really like the song that much honestly, but I do like his version better than the original. It was a cool idea he had though of making that album of covers that meant something to him.

It’s interesting to listen to…he put his soul in those recordings. I wish they were a little rawer but that wasn’t in style in 1975.

Music to dance to.
The Reader gave a suggestion, below. It shows that you posted this, originally on April 20, 2020 but, all the comments below it reflect one day ago. It may not have disappeared. It may have had the post date altered and it will show up in April in your post list.

Well I wrote it in April…it stayed in my draft folder until yesterday morning…I posted it yesterday from my damn phone which I never do. When I got home I reposted it and it showed up.
I added the 1975 to make sure it wasn’t the same as the post earlier.

It shows up on your site on the 14th but, the Reader shows the 20th:

So, you have two posts with the same material…one for June & one for April and all the comments are dated June…for both posts. LOL!

I don’t know who the hell it happened? I didn’t post it then. The date must have been screwed up. I will never fool with the phone again.

The phone app has bigger bugs than the Reader. Hell…WP in general has bugs. That’s the nature of web programming…too many fingers in the pie. One person over there adjusts a line of code for a function and breaks something connected to it. Javascript is worse than PHP. I still remember my days of “If, Then” coding. You FUBAR something, the computer gets into an infinite loop. Garbage in. Garbage out.

Yea I won’t use it again except to read and comment. I can’t believe you post off of your phone without many problems but we have different systems.

I don’t post on my phone. I learned over a year ago that it messed up my pictures. I quit. All my posting…98%…is on my laptop. I might post something, occasionally from my PC…but, rarely.
I answer comments and post comments from my phone. That’s it.
