I did a few “Where is” posts a year or so ago and they were fun. I thought I would add this to the list. Most 1970s kids know this doll from the 1975 TV horror Trilogy of Terror. Karen Black starred and played 4 different charters in this horror anthology. Three stories are interwoven together. The first is about a college student infatuated with his teacher. The second is a paranoid tale of two sisters – one good, the other evil, and the third one is about a tribal doll that comes to life and terrorizes a woman in her apartment when it’s golden chain comes off.
It’s the third one that most people remember although the first one is really good also. This doll terrorizes Karen Black’s character Amelia in her apartment and they did a good job on the special effects. They showed the doll just enough and not too much to make it look real. The story was based on Prey Prey written by the great Richard Matheson. In this presentation…this story is called Ameilia.
I watched this again for the 6th or 7th time and I wondered…did one of the dolls they used to film this survive? Yes, one survived and it was sold at auction. According to different sites… In 2019 when the Zuni doll went up for auction at “Profiles in History” a few years ago, it was expected to go for a price in the $12,000 to $15,000 range. Instead, it sold for more than $200,000! Including the buyer’s premium, the doll was purchased for a total of $217,600.
If you want one of these dolls (a copy of course) a little more affordable…you can get one on ebay. It would be a good conversation piece…just don’t turn your back on it.
If you want to see the other “Where Is” objects…go to https://powerpop.blog/70s-games-items-and-events/
Here is the doll now…he doesn’t look bad for being 47 years old.
The Complete Anthology… if you want to see JUST Amelia…go to 45:50
The last thing I would want is one of these dolls in my house…NO!

Never heard of the show, but I think I have seen pictures of that doll before. Yee! I could think of things I’d rather do with $200 000 but good for the proud owner…who sleeps with one eye open?

I’m surprised you don’t remember this Dave. It scared me to death when I was a kid. As an 8 year old… that little thing was terrifying.

That I can believe. I nearly, ahem, tinkled in my pajama pants seeing the alien in ‘Invaders From Mars,’ that old B and W 50’s flick- and it was just some big guy dressed in a boiler suit and oddball goggles. At 8 you are sooooo open to new emotions.

I had never heard of it, Max. Not sure these films were ever shown in Germany. I can definitely see why an eight-year-old would be terrified! But shelling out $200,000? Just think how many cool guitars you could get for that?

This movie stuff….there is one thing about it…it will ONLY go up through time…so yea I would have more fun with guitars.

As soon as I saw the picture, I knew that show/episode. It also sticks in mind because of Karen Black. I always thought she was weird looking, too.

She was a good looking lady but those eyes were different…she was in Easy Rider also

Eh…too weird for me… Back then, Donna Mills was stunning…or Lindsay Wagner…or even Farrah. Karen? Not to me… To each his own.

She was different…no doubt. I wouldn’t put her in my top 20 don’t get me wrong….in Easy Rider she looked quite different because she was younger I guess

I remember that little doll well and it scared the crap out of me. What’s weird is I remember this story as part of a different trilogy of terror. This was one. There was one Corbin Bernson who was in an antebellum mansion with a doll house that was haunted by the ghosts of slaves and the little dolls ended up attacking him. There was one with Kim Darby and some little evil monsters that terrorized her. My memory has linked these 3 together for some reason… And *hell*no* I wouldn’t want that Zuni doll anywhere near me!

I just asked you in email about this! I’m glad I found another person that remembered it!
Oh I remember the one about the slaves! Now I will have to find it. I love Anthology horror films. I will find it…. I found it! Tales from the Hood

Yes! I didn’t remember all of the details right I don’t think (it was a painting not a dollhouse, but I got the dolls right?) but this is definitely the show I saw. I know we’ve talked about this one before. What about the one with Kim Darby and those 2 (3?) evil little critters out to get her?

I would bet I have it…I’ll find out tonight

I found the Kim Darby one I was thinking of:
“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (1973)” It was a short movie. Also at imdb trivia on it, it says:
“Aired as an installment of ABC’s The Wide World of Mystery (1973) on February 10, 1975.” This movie scared me probably worse than the Zuni Doll one.

I will see if I have this…I have around 50-75 horror anthologies and some TV horror movies from that period.
