Jimi Hendrix – (Have You Ever Been) To Electric Ladyland

This one is on Jimi’s last and third studio album released while he was alive. So many albums have some out with Hendrix after he died. You get the feeling the man was constantly plugged into an amp in a studio while the record button was pushed.

This song to me, features some of his best singing…the mood of the song is a little different than his previous work. More mature and loose. I hear a little Curtis Mayfield influence in his singing.

The song was featured on his 1968 album Electric Ladyland. Written and produced by Jimi Hendrix, the song acts as the title track of the album. The album was on Rolling Stones 2020 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, on which it was ranked 53rd… And I’m surprised it was that high since everything old plummeted in their new rankings.

Jimi Hendrix played the guitar, bass and lead vocal tracks, and Mitch Mitchell played the drums and tambourine.

The album peaked at #1 in the Billboard Album Charts, #1 in Canada, and #6 in the UK.

Have You Ever Been To Electric Ladyland

Have you ever been, have you ever been
To Electric Ladyland?
The magic carpet waits for you, so don’t you be late
Oh, (I want to show you) the different emotions
(I want to run to) the sounds and motions
Electric woman waits for you and me
So it’s time we take a ride
We can cast all of your hang-ups over the seaside
While we fly right over the love-filled sea
Look up ahead, I see the loveland, soon you’ll understand

[Bridge]
Make love, make love
Make love, make love

[Outro]
(I want to show you) The angels will spread their wings, spread their wings
(I want to show you) Good and evil lay side by side
While electric love penetrates the sky
(I want to show you) Lord, Lord Lord I want to show you
(I want to show you) Hmm, hmm, hmm
(I want to show you)
Show you
(I want to show you)
Yeah, yeah, yeah

    1. haven’t looked at that one, but from what I’ve heard of it, it’s garbage. A combination of political correctness mixed with a surely futile attempt to win teenage readers because “oldies” like us are starting to die off or at least not purchase their publication as regularly. Surprised Justin Bieber didn’t take the #1 spot in this edition.

      1. Political Correctness is right…that is what it’s all about…the editor even said as much. He said we live in different world in 2020…well that doesn’t mean an album still isn’t great…I refer back to their previous list…this one is null and void to me.

  1. Rolling Stone Mag is trash nowadays. I subscribed to it back in the late 80s and early 90s than it got goofy 🙃
I gave up saved my 4 bucks per issue and moved on to something better!
Whatever that was I can’t remember lol

    1. I very rarely buy it now… back in the 80s I didn’t subscribe but probably bought half of the issues and then checked out almost all the others at the library. It was a fantastic concept at one time – lots of music news and interviews, a little bit more entertainment plus some real journalism…politics or social issues, because they matter too and influence so many musicians. But it seems to get watered down and more and more BTS-ized by the year.

      1. I was joking about the Madonna cover because I got it… with her success and new acts but… like you said it got watered down.
They went from in depth profiling to a celebrity machine to sell magazines. That even goes toward the Beatles…putting them on the cover with a puff piece.

      1. I do need to take a look at our library. I would like to join Nashville’s because you can do it online mostly…but I don’t live in that county.

      2. a district library can go beyond county lines. ours here covers at least 3 counties. even more, our MEL has material state-wide available for borrowing from! give your library a call and ask them.

    1. I know…I have to go to Vimeo for Jimi and Don Henley…Henley is just as bad. Jimi’s estate needs to get with the program. All you hear are covers on youtube or live.
