One of my favorites of Fleetwood Mac and I was surprised to find out that is was the B side to “Say You Love Me” and did not chart. I love the bouncy guitar and catchy verse and chorus. This song was written by Lindsey Buckingham and intended for the follow up to the Buckingham Nicks album that never came. Instead, it was the song that kicked off the new Fleetwood Mac album in 1975.
From Songfacts.
This was written by Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. He and his girlfriend at the time Stevie Nicks were recording as the duo Buckingham-Nicks and had released one album when they were asked to join Fleetwood Mac. This song was written for a second Buckingham-Nicks album, but when they joined Fleetwood Mac they brought this with them along with “Landslide” and “Rhiannon.” These songs helped make Fleetwood Mac a force in the pop music world and establish a strong radio presence for the band.
Monday Morning
Monday morning you sure look fine
Friday I got travelin’ on my mind
First you love me and then you fade away
I can’t go on believin’ this way
I got nothing but love for you
Tell me what you really want to do
First you love me, then you get on down the line
But I don’t mind, I don’t mind, yeah
I’ll be there if you want me to
No one else that could ever do
Got to get some peace in my mind
Monday morning you sure look fine
Friday I got travelin’ on my mind
First you love me and then you say it’s wrong
You know I can’t go on believing for long
But you know it’s true
You only want me when I get over you
First you love me, then you get on down the line
But I don’t mind, no, I don’t mind, yeah
I’ll be there if you want me to
No one else that could ever do
Got to get some peace in my mind
But you know it’s true
You know you only want me when I get over you
First you love me, then you get on down the line
But I don’t mind, no, I don’t mind, yeah
I’ll be there if you want me to
No one else that could ever do
Got to get some peace in my mind
Great song and the album is a good one- often overlooked because of how huge Rumours became i guess.

It is overlooked. I am being surprised about all of these songs I pick out of thin air that I liked…some of them barely charted and this one didn’t at all…I double checked twice or three times.
It’s like Midnight Man by The James Gang…none of my friends even remember it. It charted but not high .

I would have thought Monday Morning was a hit also–it sure sounds like it should have been.

B side or not…it has hit written all over it…It would have been interesting if Buckingham and Nicks would have released that second album… If they would have Fleetwood Mac as we know it may not have happened…if the songs would have been pushed.

That is a great what if- without Buckingham and Nicks songs there- well this isn’t a big hit album etc.. would the Buckingham-Nicks songs still found a way on to the radio? They would have needed a push but great songs- well- I think they could have found a way.. For them all I guess it worked out for the best!

Their first album wasn’t a bad album at all…
How did Christine McVie suddenly start writing great pop songs. I may be completely wrong but did she before Buckingham and Nicks came?

Not that I know of– maybe adding Buckingham and Nicks inspired her because she really bloomed as a songwriter at that time- maybe she thought I better get with it!

You talk about a change…that was one from what they were.
It worked for them that is for sure. They were fortunate someone like Lindsey was out there free to join…and to be fair Nicks also.

Yes I agree- although I am not a fan of Nicks- she was a talent- and had her share of good songs especially on Fleetwood Mac and Rumours.

I’ve read a statement from her saying what she really wanted was to be in the Heartbreakers…I think you and I are the only ones on earth who likes Christine better…I say that to people and I get the funniest looks….

I think you are right- Christine is underrated- Stevie a bit overrated. When you say Fleetwood Mac the first thing most people think of is Stevie Nicks. I can’t imagine her in the Heartbreakers.

She is very underrated but I guess it was Stevies image she made for herself…
No not in the Heartbreakers…she is where she belongs.

I never had the impression that Christine M was trying to sell an image like Stevie was.

No I never did either. She just played and sang her songs…no twirling allowed!

This is one of my Fleetwood Mac faves, too. Thank goodness radio stations would sometimes play entire albums back then, or I might never have heard it.

You are right. I thought it was a hit… shows you much I know

I mentioned album play, but I could almost swear the song was a hit; maybe just in certain regions. It got a fair amount of airplay in my town, and I think it was played as a single; not just as part of the album.

I heard it a lot also. DJs must have been flipping the single over also…
I triple checked Billboard and I was surprised. It is a good song nonetheless

Back when they were free to flip the single over and play the other side. Sigh.
