Red Clay Strays – No One Else Like Me

I want to thank all of you readers…I went over the million mark in views this past Saturday. I appreciate you all coming here since 2017.

My friend Greg lives near me and he came in and asked me to look this band up. They are new to me and they are called The Red Clay Strays. They seem to be a mix of rockabilly, blues, rock, soul, Americana, and a tad bit of country. The band is from Mobile, Alabama.

They were formed in 2015 and included lead vocalist Brandon Coleman, guitarist Drew Nix, bassist Andrew Bishop, drummer John Hall, and keyboardist/vocalist Logan Dozier. They met through various musical connections in Mobile and decided to form the band.

The band’s reputation grew steadily through touring. They gained a dedicated following in the Southeastern United States, playing at various festivals, clubs, and music venues. They do nicely building in dynamics in their music to make it memorable.

They released their first album in 2022 called Moment of Truth. That album peaked at #11 on the Americana/Folk Album Charts, #29 on the Billboard Country Charts, and #4 on the UK Country Charts.   Their new album is called Made By These Moments and will be released on July 26th.

Right now their popularity is spreading outside of the southeast. The bottom clip is them in Denver at the famous Red Rocks playing this song. The studio version is not out yet so I’ll include another one of their songs so you can get a feel of them below this.

No One Else Like Me

How many mistakes must I make before I start to see
How much love will it make to make me not wanna leave
How many tears must I cry before my tears run dry

Will I ever be free
Will I ever be free
Lord I wanna Be Free

Well I’m a broken ridder, I’m a restless fighter and I’m looking for a little hope
I’m a shadowed thinker, I’m a one eyed blinker at the end of this rope
I’m a dead man walking, a preacher talking, about love and how to be free
I’m a dyin ghost with a heart like most but lord, ain’t no one else like me

Lookin back at the promises that I could never keep
I wonder if there was any truth at all in me
Sometimes I wanna run away and go start over in another place
But I’ll never be free, Lord I’ll never be free

Well I’m a broken ridder, I’m a restless fighter and I’m looking for a little hope
I’m a shadowed thinker, I’m a one eyed blinker at the end of this rope
I’m a dead man walking, a preacher talking, about love and how to be free
I’m a dyin ghost with a heart like most but lord, ain’t no one else like me

Well I’m a broken ridder, I’m a restless fighter and I’m looking for a little hope
I’m a shadowed thinker, I’m a one eyed blinker at the end of this rope
I’m a dead man walking, a preacher talking, about love and how to be free
I’m a dyin ghost with a heart like most but lord, ain’t no one else like me

  1. One million Views is a great accomplishment as I don’t have half of that, but you should really count Visitors and not Views as that gives you a more accurate count of how many people are reading your posts. The first song was a bit too country for my taste, but I did like No One Else Like Me.

  2. Refreshing to hear this kind of music still being played by new generations. Lots to like here Max. The vocals are perfect. Coleman has distinct voice and delivery that could take them a long way combined with how tight the band is. Good stuff.

  3. Not bad at all. Listening to ‘No one like Me’, they are as you suggest seemingly a mix of sounds- country and rockabilly which more or less comes out to Americana. I like the slide guitar sound. Hope they stick around for awhile

    1. I appreciate it man…it shocked me as well! I knew I was getting close but I didn’t think I went over it.
Oh….guess what? We add another animal…. I got that prairie dog’s sister that we have babysat….She is beside me now.

  4. Yeah, Dave says it pretty well. It gets a bit Stonesy at the end of ‘No One,’ with the slide. That’s obviously a good thing.

Congratulations on hitting a million Max. No mean feat.

    1. Thanks John! I’ve been gone so much lately that I’m surprised I got there…but my archive gets hit more than my new posts.
I’ll be catching up to you soon….my work has taken me out of town recently for weeks at a time.

  5. Red Clay Strays have an authentic Americana/blues rock sound in the vein of classic acts like the Allman Brothers Band and The Band, and I like lead singer Coleman’s raw vocals. And congrats on garnering over a million views! You’ve far outdone me, who’s been at this two years longer than you.

    1. That is a good comparison Jeff…they are like that. I don’t see top ten hits coming from them but I do hope the get some recognition.

Well Jeff…it’s apples to oranges…you were
behind the 8-ball so to speak. Featuring new music no one has ever heard and I featured The Beatles…You are a wonderful writer and you have quite a following now. You really had to work a lot harder than I did…on every post.

      1. In my 2nd year I did more…I posted 3 a day…that is how I built readers. This year though I won’t have as much because of work…I’ll have to take off coming up again.
I do an average now of 9 a week. One every day in the work week and 4 on the weekend.

I will end up just posting on weekends one day…and it might be coming soon. I enjoy it the most when I can post little known older music.

  6. First – congrats on the million views, that’s quite something! But then I think your blog is probably one of the most popular blogs of its kind on the ‘net. It’ll increase, too…. just see if it doesn’t!

I really like both these songs, Max, thanks for the introduction to them – I’ll look out for some more of their songs on youtube. The second song reminds me a bit of some of Elton John’s early work – like ‘Border Song’.

I hope to get an email to you one of these days….

    1. Thanks Val…it took me by surprise! I happened to look a few months ago and I was close….and then I checked again.
Thank you for giving them a chance….I loved the sound of them…you don’t hear them anymore.
Val take your time….for once it’s not ME that owes you an email!!!! Woo Hoo!
