This is a very good acoustic pop song by the Connells.
The Connells were an alternative rock group formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1984 by David Connell (bass), his brother Mike Connell (guitar), Doug MacMillan (vocals) and John Shultz (drums), who was soon replaced by former Johnny Quest percussionist Peele Wimberley. In 1990 they added Steve Potak (keyboards) to their line up.
The band placed some songs in the alternative charts in the late 80s and 90s as they were played heavily on college radio The band released their 8th album in 2001 and since then haven’t done much. They never broke up but would get together and play various concerts… they are about to release their 9th album Steadman’s Wake on September 24, 2021.
This acoustic 1993 song became an unexpected smash hit in Europe, topping the pop charts in a couple of countries. The song peaked at #14 in the UK and was #1 in Sweden and Norway…It was on their Ring album.
The video is pretty cool. It was originally shot at Needham B. Broughton High School in the band’s hometown Raleigh, North Carolina in 1993, and features members of the Class of 1975 showing their yearbook pictures and them in 1993. In 2015 they remixed the song and updated the video to show the classmates they filmed in 1993 originally… and what they looked like now.
’74 – ’75
Got no reason for coming to me
And the rain running down
There’s no reason
And the same voice coming to me like it’s all slowin’ down
And believe me
I was the one who let you know
I was your sorry-ever-after seventy-four, seventy-five
It’s not easy
Nothin’ to say ’cause it’s already said
It’s never easy
When I look on in your eyes then I find that I’ll do fine
When I look on in your eyes then I’ll do better
I was the one who let you know
I was your sorry-ever-after ‘seventy-four, seventy-five
Giving me more and I’ll define
‘Cause you’re really only after seventy-four, seventy-five
Got no reason for coming to me
And the rain running down
There’s no reason
When I look on in your eyes then I find that I’ll do fine
When I look on in your eyes then I’ll do better
I was the one who let you know
I was sorry-ever-after seventy-four, seventy-five
Giving me more and I’ll define
‘Cause you’re really only after seventy-four, seventy-five
Seventy-four, seventy-five
Seventy-four, seventy-five
Seventy-four, seventy-five
This one I know! It’s in my playlist of songs to use in a post sometime. I wish I could say I heard it here back when it came out, but no, it gets occasional play on Radio Caroline and that’s where I’ve heard it. Thank you, independent radio, yet again. I love that then-and-now video. I hadn’t seen it before. It’s really special.

I’m glad I found one you knew…I heard this one before also. That video is great and I’m glad they updated it. Yes independent radio is great.

The Connells emerged from oblivion as quickly as they had disappeared again. Fortunately, they left this song.

They are about to release another album…20 years after their last. Rarely does a band recapture what they had.

I watched the video again. The portraits of people from 1975 and 1995 are touching.

I have their 1987 album, and I think someone put this song on a mixtape for me as well? It’s lovely – I should probably explore them further sometime.

I’ve liked the things I heard by them. I knew if anyone not from North Carolina knew them…it would be you.
I wanted to post an eighties song by them but I also want to get one that more people would know.

There is some good stuff by them John. Thanks for reading. Do you live in NC? I thought you said you did.

I am in NC. Didn’t realize they were, but that might be why I see their stuff in the local stores a lot.

Nice tune. It does seem to sound nebulously familiar. Given it was such a hit in Europe, I probably heard it on the radio back in Germany. According to Wikipedia, it reached no. 7 there – definitely better than 74 or 75! 🙂

You very well may have heard of this one before. I picked their most popular song…I try to do that with all of them…but usually that doesn’t make a difference lol.

Well, it looks like you finally succeeded with this one, at least in my case! 🙂

Nice mellow tune and phenomenal video. How they were able to find all of the earlier video versions of the class was so cool. Makes me feel a little old as that was close to the year I graduated.

All I have to do is look in the mirror…I expect my 18 year old self to be looking back…that doesn’t happen.

Quite nice track from yet another new one to me. How odd it suddenly caught on in Scandinavia. Cool video too- man some of them look like they aged a lot more than 18 years! Trouble connecting to internet at home this morn, hope i get it rectified this aft and put up today’s posts

I know… it was more though…1974-1993-2015….you saw the black and white photos and then them in 1993 and then the updated version in 2015…that is where it really showed…of course that was 22 years after the first video. I may not have explained that right.

Oh! well that makes a bit more sense… I mean, I don’t even claim to look “young” anymore and don’t bother trying to color in my graying hair but man… I’ve been out of high school 36, 37 years and honestly look younger than some of them!

Yet another song – and band – I’d not previously heard of. It’s a nice, heartwarming song, and so cool that they were able to follow and film that many classmates over time.

This was really good Max. I’ll definitely be adding it to my collection. Thanks for introducing me to their music. I’m seriously behind on catching up on unread posts of those I follow.
I’m currently watching your beloved Dodgers winning comfortably over the Phillies. I can’t wait to see the Field of Dreams game which will be broadcasted tomorrow. I hope this message finds you and your family well.

That is me also…I’m staying behind until a project from work lightens up…
That should be cool to watch a game on that field.

They didn’t end up broadcasting it here. I watched bits through a pirate site online. It looked like an amazing introduction and tremendous finish. I’m peeved I didn’t get to see it in its entirety.
