Swingin’ Medallions – Double Shot (of my Baby’s Love)

Happy New Years Everyone!

This song sounds like it’s being performed by a drunk fraternity. I love this song. It’s hard to be in a bad mood when you listen to this. The song was banned on many radio stations because of references to drinking and sex… This song peaked at #17 in 1966 on the Billboard 100.

I did post this 3 years ago but I didn’t have many readers…so I thought today would be a good day to drunkenly sing anything to welcome 2021 and kiss or kick 2020 goodbye.

As you can probably guess…it was their only charting song…but they sure sounded like they had a good time doing it though. The song was written by Don Smith and Cyril Vetter.

If you want to know more about the Medallions go to their home page…from what I see they are still playing.

I found where Bruce Springsteen invited The Swingin’ Medallions up on stage to sing “Double Shot” in 2009 here is the video.

Double Shot of My Baby’s Love

Woke up this morning, my head was so bad
The worst hangover that I ever had
What happened to me last night
That girl of mine, she loved me so right (yeah) (oh, oh)
She loved me so long and she loved me so hard
I finally passed out in her front yard (whoo)
It wasn’t wine that I had too much of
It was a double shot of my baby’s love

Double shot of my baby’s love, yeah yeah, yeah
Double shot of my baby’s love, yeah yeah, yeah
A potion that I had too much of
It was a double shot of my baby’s love

It was such a thrill it was hurtin’ me (ooh)
I was sufferin’ in ecstasy
She had me turnin’ flips and-a shoutin’ out loud (yah-hah)
A sip of her love and I was walkin’ one a cloud
One night a week is-a plenty enough
It’s a good thing for me they don’t bottle that stuff (pop)
Well, my heart begins to fly like a dove
When I take a double shot of my baby’s love

Double shot of my baby’s love, yeah yeah, yeah
Double shot of my baby’s love, yeah yeah, yeah
A potion that I had too much of
It was a double shot of my baby’s love

Double shot of my baby’s love, yeah yeah, yeah
Double shot of my baby’s love, yeah yeah, yeah
Double shot of my baby’s love, yeah yeah, yeah
Double shot of my baby’s love, yeah yeah, yeah

  1. I remember this song, the organ music gives it that party feel (for 1966.) It made me think of a very similar song on an early Cat Stevens album that I had (and is probably still in a closet in my ex’s house, never played) and I think someone else did a faster cover of it along the way:

    1. It’s just something so loose and free about it that I can’t resist.
I know the song you are talking about I believe…Here Comes My Baby… the Tremelos did a cover of it.

      1. Oh Lisa…I read off of the right hand side panel…I looked in the reader on the comments afterwards…I thought…she is going to think I’m an idiot. I didn’t know you posted the video…that didn’t show up in the panel for some reason….the Cat Stevens song…

      2. I’ve noticed they sometimes now don’t show up in the right hand panel. No it’s Word Press…you were fine….I see it when I go to the comment section.

    1. Yea the song just fit today.

I know I’m the same way. I can tell I’m getting old. I’ve been off since last Wednesday…the day before Christmas Eve and only used one vacation day because of them calling me…which is cool in a way.

      1. I told you when I saw him it was when he released ‘Darkness’. He was like a man exorcising some demons when he played songs off that record (Adam Raised a Cain. It was so in you face. One of the loudest, angriest songs I’ve heard live).
Then he would bust out this kind of tune Gloria,, Paradise By the C, Do You Love Me, Quarter To 3 and he was partying. He likes the “fun” Max. That’s why that clip got me.
