Sad news from New York tonight. Ric Ocasek was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday, law enforcement confirmed. Some reports say he was 75 and some say he was 70.
Ric wrote some of the best pop hits of the late seventies and eighties for the Cars. The Cars were a big part of my teenage years.

It’s a tough call, I know. What an innovator. He had his own sound.

He made songs that were instantly likable. His music is the genre that I’m all about.
Did you ever see the Cars? I never got to.

I never did see the Cars. They are one I’d still go see now if I could.

Terrible news. He was also an excellent artist. Not that long ago I spent a couple of hours looking through a gallery of his work. Such an artistic loss to the world.

Don’t really want to ‘like’ this post but had to acknowledge this – The Cars were my second concert in 1982 with Nick Lowe opening – at least he lived to see the band get into the hall of fame – much too late in my opinion though.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I wasn’t sure about posting it. It’s obvious I love power pop and they were the soundtrack of my teenage years.
Nick Lowe and The Cars…man…. that is a show.
Yea much too late.

The Cars were a solid band. Definitely left their mark and Ocasek was awesome.

I just read that he was born on March 23, 1949, thus he was only 70.

Thanks…reports at first were all over the map. He was in his 30s when the Cars came out…they probably fudged his age a little then and it stuck.

It was a terrible shock. Hard to imagine him being gone, also hard to imagine him being 75! (I do remember writing about him a year or two back and coming across the discrepency as to his year of birth then, but based on his school grad and so on, I figured the older was right, making him 75). May he rest in peace

Seems like my childhood – teenage favorites are starting to disappear.

I know, right?! But think about it, most of them are in their 60’s and 70’s now. How much longer will they be around?

I know…bad for me because I grew up in the 80s but I liked the 60s and 70s bands and artists more. The clock is ticking that is for sure.
