This song came out in 1970 and was performed by Edison Lighthouse who was not a working band but an English studio group with Tony Burrows singing. This is bubblegum music but I do like it. In 1970 this song peaked at #5 on the Billboard 100, #3 in Canada and #1 in the UK.
Freedy Johnston also covered this song in 2001 and I like his version just as much or more as the original. The song didn’t chart but did get some airplay.. I have it under the original.

That is one of those types of songs that if I were making a Best Songs of 1970 list- wouldn’t make the list- but every time I hear it on the radio I enjoy it. Whatever happened to Freedy Johnson- his first few albums were great and highly acclaimed..I am sure he is still out there but you never hear his name anymore- anywhere.

I really liked Freedy Johnson also…he just disappeared. Bad Reputation and Seventies Girl were my favorites.

Saw him in concert mid 90’s a couple times- loved his cover of the Wichita Lineman.

I agree with you both– the original was a really good single…not one of the best of the 70s but probably hit my top 30 or so for the year it came out, and a nice treat to hear once in awhile

I really like his “Love Grows.” Maybe I just like the song, but his version’s a good one.

I liked it because he kept it the same…the instruments are just clearer because of the recording…he might have popped it up….I love that song.
