Since the playoffs are in full swing…thought I would list my 5 favorite baseball songs in no certain order.
Take Me Out To The Ball Game – The classic song of the game written in 1908 and still going strong.
Talking Baseball – Terry Cashman released this in 1981 but it didn’t do much in the charts when it was released but has caught on to be a classic.
Centerfield – John Fogerty on his “comeback” album of the same name. This is played at every ballpark.
Glory Days – Bruce Springsteen – Based off a true encounter with an ex-classmate that Bruce played little league baseball with when they were young.
Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball – Count Basie

good list!! You should check out the band The Baseball Project (I should take my own advice and do that too- I honestly don’t know much of their stuff.) Sort of an REM offshoot with Mike Mills, Peter Buck and ‘fifth REM guy’ Scott McGaughey and a few others. All their songs are about baseball!

I second Dave’s comment on The Baseball Project- they have three albums out. Excellent original baseball songs… Back when Talkin’ Baseball came out- I listened to a sports talk show out of Cleveland every night- Pete Franklin was the host- my all time favorite sports talk host– anyway- when Talkin’ Baseball came out one night he kept playing it over and over and over- must have been like ten times in a row…. I collect baseball songs- those are all great ones you mentioned! One of my favorites is Steve Goodman’s A Dying Cub Fans Last Request.

I need to listen to more of them… I never heard the Steve Goodman one but I’ll check it out. I love the title.
Talkin’ Baseball is great.

Terry Cashman has a couple albums out of baseball songs- none match Talkin’ Baseball but Play By Play {I Saw It On The Radio} is fantastic- it has calls of great play by play men included in the song… I need to make a list!!

I will do that–baseball songs. Also in addition to the Baseball Project there are two Cd’s out there of baseball songs- came out in early 90’s Baseball’s Greatest Hits and Baseball’s Greatest Hits Let’s Play Two– both are filled with great songs. Highly recommended. I wish they’d put out another volume..

I’m looking forward to it….Ok I will look for them. The only ones I really know are the ones in Baseball by Ken Burns…the ones that came out in the 40s and 50s about a player.

Amazing the number of baseball songs out there- I can’t think of one about football I am sure there has to be one….

You are right… never thought of it but I can’t think of one about football unless you count fight songs.
