Announcement to Readers

I am going to start blogging just on weekends coming soon. I could include a Monday or Friday here and there. Work has picked up and it’s got to the point where I miss so many of your blogs because of the lack of time. That’s not fair to you and I’ve fallen so far behind I can’t catch up. So instead of missing a month or two of not blogging… I thought I could isolate it to the weekends.

I won’t be leaving, of course, but doing this just on weekends for the near future makes sense for me. I have been blogging with a few breaks for the past 7 years every day. I’m not ruling out ever coming back every day. In fact, that is what probably will happen… it is time though to put more effort into what I need to do and for my work to ease up.

Thanks to all of you who follow me and I hope you will catch my posts on the weekend. This is not an easy thing to do for me. I know I will miss it and talking to everyone daily. We have a great community here and I learn more from all of you than I learn by writing the posts. This could last a month or a year…I’m not sure yet.

Thank you all again!

    1. Thanks Jim I appreciate it. My job sometimes allows for it…but lately it hasn’t been at all…there are only a few blogs I’ve visited in the past month…and that is not fair for people who follow me.

  1. Yeah, sometimes it’s either ‘Time Out’ or burnout. Never blog if it starts to feel like work you gotta do. At least at real Work you’re getting paid, and hopefully paid Overtime. If not- stomp into the Boss and demand a bonus!

      1. I never had salary and never wanted it. Interestingly, the last store I worked for in Canada, I was hourly though a department head… some others in the chain had the same people on salaries. I counted myself lucky

      2. Yes it is…the only advantages I get would be…if I want to leave at 3 on a day…I do…things like that….but it’s not worth it.

  2. That seems very sensible, Max. I’ve been saying for ages, that you’d do better to lower the amount you post to the blog. I’m sure you’ll feel better for it – even if you do come back on weekdays later!

  3. Understandable Max! But I’ll miss seeing your weekday posts. It’s a drag work has you that busy, but you have to have your ducks in a row as they say and take care of yourself by taking care of your time. I know the feeling too- I have a hard time reading even the blogs from those of you whom I do subscribe to, and there are easily a dozen more sites from good people, friends online, that I don’t subscribe to merely because I couldn’t find the time to read them more than once in a blue moon. Too many good writers – I guess its a good problem! Anyway, hope you get more relaxed with the extra time available

    1. Thanks Dave…yea I feel really bad that I can’t cover everyone and they keep coming to my blog…makes me feel awful but I just don’t have the time.

    2. Yep Dave and Max there are so many sites I’d love to subscribe to but I can’t do them justice time-wise, and that is even allowing for the fact that my time is entirely my own I still need a life outside blogging.

      1. It became a habit obbverse and I didn’t think anything about it…but now if one thing happened it would throw me off. I will still be reading some now that I don’t have to worry about mine.

    1. Thank You! Well you are one of the ones I was talking about in this post. I haven’t been to your site in forever… now if I want to read some I actually can.

    1. Clive you were one of the ones I was talking about. I am truly sorry I haven’t been around like I should have been. All the last ones I followed. But yea now I will have more time to actually read blogs more…what a concept! Thank you so much!

      1. Oh I will Clive….I like good music and I’ve read about the Beatles since I was 8…so I love the UK and I like learning more about music from there…not that I don’t like American or Canadian music as well. I’ve seen enough of yours to know it’s great quality. I’ll talk to you next weekend!

  4. I know just how you feel Max – so relax and enjoy work without a blog deadline over your head. At present I’m too neurotic to stop posting. This morning I got up at 2am to write a story to post at 6 am. Yawn… Hopefully I shall see you on weekends – which of course is my Sunday and Monday!

  5. I get it. when I started this I commited to read and respond to everyone that followed me, and read and comment to those blogs I follow…it’s become like a full time job without having time to keep up my own blog.

like today, busy day and now catching up…so my update will have to wait a day…which kid of sucks…I wonder how those that have thousands and thousands of followers do it?

    1. I don’t see how in the hell they do it! Today I got over 100 comments and I was glued to the phone and pc most of the day. I work as an IT Director so in IT we have time during the day usually but it’s picked up so much that I don’t have that as much…I’ve been up to midnight replying to people and reading blogs. Now I can read some blogs and not worry about mine until the weekends. Oh…and thank you Warren for the Blue Shadows tip (awesome band)…it got me in a Americana mood and I posted on Whiskeytown today.

  6. Good call. I don’t think this should ever feel like a job, and if it does then you’re in control of your own hours so make a change! My one post every three days is the maximum I could do, so kudos to you for banging out two a day for all these years!

    1. Thanks Stewart…I wanted to build a readership with a lot of comments…well I got it! I appreciate you not minding me catching up with you like 5 at a time lol…Now I will be able to read peoples blog without worrying about catching up with mine…yea what you do is very good. I’ll do just weekends but I’m sure a Friday and Monday will have some. I have 16 posts sitting there waiting…I’ll use those.

      1. Thanks Stewart…it is hard to cover everything….but now I’ll be posting 4-5 a week instead of a crazy amount. It’s odd not having to answer comments all day…it’s like walking about with your shirt on backwards…I’m sure I’ll adjust lol.

  7. Good solution, Max! The bad thing about blogs is that they are difficult to maintain in long term. Many disappear at some point because the authors stop. They don’t have the time, the desire or the salary.

  8. Max, when I first started blogging, back in 2011, I was working full time, and yes, it’s hard to find time to sit for an hour or more at the computer after you’ve sat in front of one for most of the day. I did what you are doing, weekends only, for a while. Some folks feel they have to contribute daily, and their stories, pictures etc show it. Good food for thought is the best way to approach your audience. I sometimes go a week without posting, or answering. Your post are quality and us musicians dig that.

    1. Thanks Phil! What I’ll miss is the daily comments but…that will have to be later. It was getting to a point where I had no time at night and my work time has been running out.

      1. Yes…that is what I’m doing…I really enjoy weekends most anyway…because I go out on a limb and post more unknown stuff….I love doing that.

  9. There’s just not enough hours in the day, Max, to dao all we HAVE to do and all we WANT to do!

I so admire your dedication to blogging, but there does come a time when you have to recognise and give in to other ‘proper’ priorities. It’s not just the writing of pieces – it’s the reciprocating with other bloggers and showing support for those who read your pieces. Reading and responding to all those blogs you follow takes masses of time.

You’ll feel better for this – not having the ‘;pressure’ of posting daily. Other things are more important.

I’m much the same – you’ll maybe have noticed my lack of activity since returning from India … I just have other sporting / writing / family type matters that are more pressing for the time being. That said, I’m really keen to find time to get back to LOUD HORIZON .

Anyway – you know we’ll all still be here or hereabouts for your weekend blogs …. though if you can’t be arsed, don’t feel you NEED to post just coz you said you would. Once you’re weaned off the blogging a bit, you may get a liking for the ‘free’ time. 🙂

    Cheers pal.

    1. Thanks so much man!
Yea I wasn’t enjoying it because I was feeling guilty about not going to other people’s blogs anymore because I was so swamped with mine and work…and home life…it got to be impossible. I was letting more people down than helping…you were one of them…
Oh I enjoy the hell out of weekends. I do sorta what you do on Loud Horizon…I post mostly music that the masses haven’t heard before on weekends….so I knew I would want to keep that.
You are right…once this sets in…I may cut down all together…we will see how it goes.
      Thanks again man.

  10. I completely understand your situation. I work two jobs in food service, one in a school and one in a hospital, and I feel like all I do is eat, sleep and work. And not that much sleep! Thankfully this week is Winter Break from school so I can catch my breath for a minute. The problem is we’re always short-staffed at the hospital , so I’ll probably go in early tonight. So I read you loud and clear. There’s a point where you have to say “enough”. I will look forward to whatever posts you can manage. Take care and see you soon.

I still want the weekends and I haven’t forgotten about Smither either…I have 16 posts still waiting to go so I will probably do some Fridays and Mondays here and there with them.
Thank you so much and I’ll see you Saturday or maybe Friday!
