A huge Thank You to Randy from mostlymusiccovers.com for publishing all of these that him and I wrote.
We all know the great album Brothers in Arms from Dire Straits, but sometimes those brothers are “at arms” rather than in them. In this part of the mini-series Max (that’s me!), from PowerPop, talks about the “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em” Siblings of Noel and Liam Gallagher of the legendary band Oasis. Randy from https://mostlymusiccovers.com originally posted this post here.

The feud between the Gallagher brothers, Noel (left) and Liam (right), of the British rock band Oasis is one of the most toxic in music history.
Their volatile relationship has been marked by public spats, physical altercations, and a war of words in the media. The brothers have different personalities, with Noel often seen as the more reserved and serious musician, and Liam as the more volatile and outspoken lead singer. The Gallagher brothers are cultural icons in the UK, known as much for their music as for their childish spats.
Noel was born on May 29, 1967, and Liam was born on September 21, 1972, in Manchester, England. The Gallagher family faced a troubled home life, with an abusive father, which led to their mother Peggy eventually leaving with her sons. Both got interested in music in their teens. Noel worked as a roadie for The Inspiral Carpets, which gave him insight to the music industry and songwriting. In Liam’s teen years he got interested and formed a band called The Rain.
In 1991, Liam’s band, The Rain, was struggling when Noel joined after returning from touring with The Inspiral Carpets. Noel agreed to join only if he could take creative control. The band was renamed Oasis, and with Noel as the principle songwriter. In 1994 Oasis released their debut album, Definitely Maybe, which became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK at the time.
It’s a shame because Oasis was one of the UK’s biggest bands.
…

Thanks for keeping the stories alive Max! And as always your support is much appreciated.

One of my all-time favorite groups! I bought their albums right when they came out from ’79-’85. My favorite was the album from ’81 with ‘Industrial Disease’…but the album before that had my favorite song of theirs ‘Once Upon A Time in the West’. Great memories.

Their relationship wasn’t helped by consuming appropriately a tractor trailer’s worth of cocaine, but seems they never got along to begin with. A shame because they made some excellent records and are young enough to probably make some more of they’d work together again.

I really hope they work together again. I wouldn’t hold my breath unless they start running out of money which won’t happen because of the royalities.

quite so, I wouldn’t foresee it either but who knows? They sold an incredible number of copies and should still get a lot of radio and streaming royalties, but, with their lifestyles (see comment re: tractor-trailers full) they might not be able to afford the lifestyle they want anymore without a few 40 000 seat shows selling out.

I’m sure Noel is fine because of songwriting but yes…it could be runnning low! Time to patch things up for a tour anyway!

When Oasis split up, I followed Noel’s solo career rather than Liam’s.

I’m not super knowledgable about them but…I learned a lot from writing this…Noel seemed like the biggest talent of the band…main songwriter and he can sing very well.

It definitely seems the brother’s want Oasis to reform asap. It won’t be the original line-up but the rest of the band would consist of Noel’s current ‘High Flying Birds’

Too bad it won’t be the original but this will work.

I just read that they are getting back together next year for a few shows in England. Not sure it is good ol bullshit but those two on their own no one cares about (outside of England perhaps) so money talks… let’s see what happens

I really hope they do…Liam may be running out of money lol…no I’m sure both of them are set…but I hope it happens.

Total cash grab for sure but they are a great band. “Do You Know What I Mean” is my fav Oasis track …but they do have many from the 90s that are good

“Oasis at the Air Canada Centre. Come on out and see Liam Gallagher play all your favorites – ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Live Forever’ and more – or Noel Gallagher playing allyour favorites. Or 50-50, see both of them together in one night!’

LOL…they are probably more combustible than any other set of musical brothers.

As Deke said, I too read today it ‘seems’ to be confirmed for a few big 2025 concerts in Britain at least. But…still months left for their angry egos to get in the way!

Yea I’m sure something will happen…but they are young enough to start actaully touring again and making new albums.

Oasis was a rather late “discovery” in my case, mostly thanks to fellow bloggers who had written about them. I’ve really come to like their music and have a lot of time for it. I can’t say the same about their public fights. I really hope eventually they will be able to get over their big egos and reconcile. They literally are brothers, for crying out loud!

Thats me as well except for the two American hits. A lot of their music I’m really liking. I never had a brother but if you take two brothers who will fight anyway….and put fame on top of it…I can imagine how bad it could get.

Noel is for sure the bigger musical talent, but Noel without Liam just isn’t the same… Nice timing with this, as they are apparently about to announce a reunion tomorrow….
