This one is only 16 years old…for this site that is practically brand new!
When I first heard this I thought this song had a Stevie Wonder feel to it…none of my friends shared the same opinion… Nonetheless, it’s a good song. It’s a straight-ahead pop song without much production.
James Morrison is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist from Rugby, Warwickshire. James attributes his gravelly voice to a near-fatal childhood bout of whooping cough. The song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Triple-A Charts in 2009. The song was written by James Morrison, and Barry and Mark Taylor.
The song was on his second studio album Songs for You, Truths for Me, which peaked at #49 in the Billboard 100 in 2008.
“Nothing Ever Hurt Like You” received critical acclaim and was well-received by audiences. While it did not win any major awards, it helped James Morrison’s career as a respected singer-songwriter.

Oh, oh, oh,
Yeah yeah yeah
HeyIf loving you is easy,
Playing by the rules,
But you said love taste so much better when its cruel
To you everything was just a game,
Yeah you played me good,
But I want you, I want you, I want you,
So much more than I should,
Yes I do.I’ve got my hands up so take your aim,
Yeah I’m ready,
There’s nothing that we can’t go through,
Oh it hit me like a steal freight train,
When you left me,
And nothing ever hurt like you,
Nothing ever hurt like you.I was naive and wide eyed,
But you made me see,
That you don’t get to taste the honey,
Without the sting of a bee,
No you don’t.Yes you stung me good,
Oh yeah you dug in deep,
But ill take, ill take it, ill take it
Till I’m down on my knees.
I’ve got my hands up so take your aim,
Yeah I’m ready,
There’s nothing that we can’t go through,
Walk a thousand miles on broken glass,
It wont stop me,
From making my way back to you,
Its not real till you feel the pain,
And nothing ever hurt like you,
Nothing ever hurt like you.Oh everything was just a game,
Yeah you played me good,
But I want you, I want you, I want you,
I want you, I want you.I’ve got my hands up so take your aim,
Yeah I’m ready,
There’s nothing that we can’t go through,
Walk a thousand miles on broken glass,
It wont stop me,
From making my way back to you,
Its not real till you feel the pain,
And nothing ever hurt like you,
Nothing ever hurt like you.

Very nice music.

With the first few notes on electric piano I knew I was in for a treat.

I’m glad you liked it. I thought of Wonder like I said but it’s a good song regardless.

Man, nice to see some James Morrison get some love. I really enjoyed his first couple albums, but for not fault of his, I haven’t listened to him in awhile. I need to spin those early ones again.

I think you are the only one that has mentioned you like him. I thought he would hit bigger when I first heard him.

oh, that’s a nice surprise. That’s a good tune, some fine blue-eyed soul and a little pep in its step. I remember hearing of him, but only because at the time I noticed the name and thought ‘another Jim Morrison?’

Right!
He has a good sound going on…John knew of him but not many people did. I still think Stevie Wonder

Yep, great voice for this song, the piano sounds like something from, I can’t quite place it, but a retro Eaglesish Witchey Womanish. It’s not that particular song but it and his voice bring me to the mid70s.
Dammit, trying to place it is gonna have my mind grasping at ethereal scraps of songs, just out of my poor brains reach.
Thank you kindly Max!!!

That’s a good song Max. It’s not my preferred style, but I can’t help but enjoy it. I passed it on to people who I thought might enjoy it as well.

I don’t listen to this style either much…but something about it I liked.

Same here. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it except that I thought it was groovy.

One of the times I saw Prine and he had a opening act. Amos Lee (he was and is good). This is the same vibe. I like it.

A small world CB…I saw him open for Dylan…that is the concert that Elvis Costello popped up as well. He did have that vibe.

Very cool. I think it was the first time I bought an artists recordings at a concert. He’s good. Love his first record. He has solid stuff.

I enjoyed him but he was overshadowed at mine by Elvis popping up unannounced…which I didn’t mind at all….then came Jack White…thats the benefit of living in Nashville at times.

Yeah. When I saw him it was a small venue and Prine gave him lots of time and then Had him join him for an encore. It was a good night.

Damn, Max, that’s a great song. I don’t recall having heard of James Morrison before. The track definitely has a neat soul vibe to it. And, yes, I can see the Stevie Wonder association. Do you know whether it’s representative of his music otherwise?

I’m glad you saw the Stevie Wonder also…I haven’t listened to a lot of his to tell you the truth…but I did like his blued soul on this one.

I like this song a lot, and I agree that his gravelly vocals sound a bit reminiscent of Stevie Wonder.

I just looked him up on Wikipedia and learned his life partner and mother of their two children died in January. No cause was given.

Oh that is terrible…he is not an older person.

No, he’s only 39. His partner was apparently in her early 40s.

I just read where they were together for two decades. He lost his father, brother, and nephew a while back within a 3 year period.
