James Morrison – Nothing Ever Hurt Like You

This one is only 16 years old…for this site that is practically brand new!

When I first heard this I thought this song had a Stevie Wonder feel to it…none of my friends shared the same opinion… Nonetheless, it’s a good song. It’s a straight-ahead pop song without much production.

James Morrison is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist from Rugby, Warwickshire. James attributes his gravelly voice to a near-fatal childhood bout of whooping cough. The song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Triple-A Charts in 2009. The song was written by James Morrison, and Barry and Mark Taylor.

The song was on his second studio album  Songs for You, Truths for Me, which peaked at #49 in the Billboard 100 in 2008.

“Nothing Ever Hurt Like You” received critical acclaim and was well-received by audiences. While it did not win any major awards, it helped James Morrison’s career as a respected singer-songwriter.

  5. oh, that’s a nice surprise. That’s a good tune, some fine blue-eyed soul and a little pep in its step. I remember hearing of him, but only because at the time I noticed the name and thought ‘another Jim Morrison?’

  6. Yep, great voice for this song, the piano sounds like something from, I can’t quite place it, but a retro Eaglesish Witchey Womanish. It’s not that particular song but it and his voice bring me to the mid70s.
    Dammit, trying to place it is gonna have my mind grasping at ethereal scraps of songs, just out of my poor brains reach.

      2. I enjoyed him but he was overshadowed at mine by Elvis popping up unannounced…which I didn’t mind at all….then came Jack White…thats the benefit of living in Nashville at times.

  10. Damn, Max, that’s a great song. I don’t recall having heard of James Morrison before. The track definitely has a neat soul vibe to it. And, yes, I can see the Stevie Wonder association. Do you know whether it’s representative of his music otherwise?

    1. I’m glad you saw the Stevie Wonder also…I haven’t listened to a lot of his to tell you the truth…but I did like his blued soul on this one.

      3. I just read where they were together for two decades. He lost his father, brother, and nephew a while back within a 3 year period.
