In the eighties when I heard this song, I knew it was better than “So Bad” his last release at that time…but that wasn’t a hard song to beat. This song was my favorite Paul McCartney single of the 1980s.
This single was a very good pop song by Paul. I also knew that the guitar solo had a familiar sound to it. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd played the guitar solo on this track. He requested that his session fee be given to a charity of Paul’s choice.
This was the first single from the soundtrack album to the movie Give My Regards To Broad Street. The song peaked at #6 on the Billboard 100, #11 in Canada, and #2 in the UK in 1984. Herbie Flowers plays bass on this track.
The original video was shot on April 10th in Bermondsey (South East London) at the Old Justice Pub. A second video was shot in October at the Hippodrome in London to promote the Dance Version, this clip features Jeffrey Daniels (of Shalamar).
The filming of the music video went on late into the night. The noise from the fireworks reportedly caused locals to complain to the police who said, “I’m sorry, but Mr. McCartney is simply doing some filming.”
No More Lonely Nights
I can wait another day until I call you
You’ve only got my heart on a string and everything a-flutter
But another lonely night might take forever
We’ve only got each other to blame
It’s all the same to me love
‘Cause I know what I feel to be right
No more lonely nights
No more lonely nights
You’re my guiding light
Day or night I’m always there
May I never miss the thrill of being near you
And if takes a couple of years
To turn your tears to laughter
I will do what I feel to be right
No more lonely nights (Never be another)
No more lonely nights
You’re my guiding light
Day or night I’m always there
And I won’t go away until you tell me so
No, I’ll never go away
Yes, I know (I know) what I feel (I feel) to be right
No more lonely nights (Never be another)
No more lonely nights
You’re my guiding light
Day or night I’m always there
And I won’t go away until you tell me so
No, I’ll never go away
And I won’t go away until you tell me so
No, I’ll never go away
No more lonely nights, no, no
That is some clout. Even the police won’t mess with Paul.

I guess being an ex-Beatle is more rare than a king or president lol.

This is my first time hearing this song, but I was into a lot of other things in 1984. It is a decent song, but it seems like another one of his silly love songs, which can become too much.

Always was fond of this track. Had no idea Gimour was on it as well. Guess they got Comfortably Numb after the session lol

Paul could do this in his sleep. Not saying that disrespectfully, because his mediocre stuff was levels above most others. Wow, I shoulda picked out who the guitarist was but didn’t.

Yea after you know who it is…you can tell by his tone.

a good song from what seemed like an otherwise all-around misguided project – sounded like a dreadful movie and much of the rest of the album was … unnecessary? Lots of remakes of earlier Wings and Beatles songs. Not to disparage Sir Paul, nor ignore his incredible run of very good songs in the 60s and 70s but I’ll say it – probably the last really good McCartney single.

I agree…I do like some of his 90s – now songs but as far as hearing it…yea it was probably his last great one.

I do recall this song, and consider it one of his better solo efforts. Funny to hear the law was on Paul’s side regarding the fireworks.

It’s not So Bad – okay enough with the joking! “No More Lonely Night” is a pretty decent tune. I also didn’t know David Gilmour played on this! If I would have a pick one of Paul’s ’80s, I think I’d go with “Take It Away” or “My Brave Face”.

I like his romantic ballads. Now that I know it’s David Gilmour on guitar how could I have not recognized it before.
