I’ve never had recipe’s on my blog but since it’s near Christmas I thought I would stick with my usual theme and post this dessert that is associated with the 1970s.
This recipe is coming to you straight from Kraft.

Yes…I’ve seen it called fruit salad…just fruit cocktail mixed in with cool whip…and other things.

Feel like you Americans should also provide some healthier salad options at Christmas….

We we do eat regular salads…as in lettuce, tomato and light dressing…but what is the fun of posting that?

Wow! That is a throwback. My mom made this when I was a little, little kid. I bet it has been 40 years since I’ve had that. Thanks for the memories.

This recipe definitely belongs in food ‘pop culture’, so well done in adding it to your culture array. I’ve never made it, but I sure don’t mind eating it at a gathering. 🙂

I remember having it at my grandmothers house in the 70s….Thank you I thought it fit well and not just the name. I did like it a lot.

I’m not normally into this kind of food, but it sounds so good, I just might make it! If I can find pistachio flavored pudding.

It looks so damn good. I had it when I was a kid and loved it. If you do tell me how it goes if you don’t mind.

Any reason it’s called Watergate Salad? My sweetie (and I think quite a few in this area) make something similar , she calls it just ‘Pink Stuff’ – cool whip with canned cherries, a few pineapple bits and marshmallows, I believe, she uses pecans too most of the time though I’m allergic so if it’s one for me to eat she edits them out.

Oh yes! I have had the “pink stuff” also.
Here is what I found…it was because of the timing.
; it’s a relic of the mid-1970s, when instant gelatin was still a new invention. The culinary world whipped up “salads” containing exactly zero lettuce, Kraft began selling a pistachio-flavored Jell-O for the first time, and the nation was experiencing its very first presidential resignation.

It’s illegal, it’s immoral, and it makes you fat – but I just might try is for the new year. You failed to mention the wine, brandy and rum in the ingredients – so we shall be having them as a side.

Those on the side makes it soooo much better! A Merry Christmas to you Bruce.

Looks rather tasty… Not sure why people don’t enjoy jello salads that much. Merry Christmas, my friend!

Merry Christmas to you and your family! I loved this stuff when I was a kid.
I wonder if you can still get Pistachio pudding? I’ll have to check.
