I just watched this movie for the 3rd time this past week. It was directed by Frank Capra and starred Ronald Colman and Jane Wyatt and featured Sam Jaffe, H.B. Warner (Mr. Gower in It’s A Wonderful Life), and the great character actor Thomas Mitchell.
It’s about a group of people on a plane and crashing in the Himalayas and being taken to a wonderful place called Shangri-La. Shangri-La is a place that is beautiful and everyone lives and works in harmony. It is directed by Frank Capra. Ronald Colman is great as a British diplomat named Robert Conway. Jane Wyatt is gorgeous and she plays Sondra a resident of Shangri-La that falls for Conway and him for her.
One of the things they get right is the human element. Who would not want to live in a perfect place, live long, be healthy, and be in peace? Well, there is always one in every crowd and you have a couple here.
The movie has a few minutes with stills and audio because the footage is missing. It’s not a lot of the movie and it doesn’t get in the way. I will recommend this movie to anyone.

I used to know why the footage was missing. The same ex that was the Rundgren fan introduced me to this.
They filmed some of it in a refrigerated place…I read where that damaged some stock…but that can’t be the reason because it was showed at one time…there goes my brain again.
Have you seen the 73 remake? It’s rated so low…but I’ll have to try it one day. I know it cannot top this.
I didn’t know there was a remake.
I didn’t know either until I started to look up info on this one…it had some names in it…

That looks interesting. Definitely not B-List actors.
No not B-List. I will have to check it out and see anyway.
My son is heavily into older movies and we watched Lost Horizon and The Searchers recently…another excuse to watch a movie!
Also, A Letter to Three Wives comes on TCM this Thursday, if you are interested.
I sure am…it looks good. I like seeing movies recommended…I’ll see a movie recommended by a person over a critic.
I watched Jane Wyatt in Father Knows Best and I did not realize that she was in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home until I just looked her up.
I didn’t know that either. When I looked her up while watching Lost Horizon I saw that she lived a long life. Now when I watch movies or old tv shows I have my laptop and start looking up one of the actors while watching. I’ve never seen Father Knows Best.
It was only on for 6 years from 1954 to 1960 and it was in Black and White.
Never heard of it but it sounds quite good
Any time you introduce handguns into paradise there is going to be trouble….
This movie is so good. It captures humans perfectly. Nothing is good enough for some.
oh isn’t that the truth!
There is 7 minutes of the film missing. They just could never find it. You know they had to have a bunch of prints of the movie made because it played in a bunch of theaters. I bet they find the missing film some day.
It works without it…but yea that would be best to have it.
Oddly the video doesn’t show they work in harmony too well.
You are right! Yes the trailer showed before they got there plus the brother causing the trouble once they did.
