I haven’t reviewed Beck’s discography as much as I should have. This song is really good and so is the rest of the album. They touch on so many different styles.
The Jeff Beck Group was formed by guitarist Jeff Beck after he left The Yardbirds. The original lineup included Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on bass, Micky Waller on drums, and Nicky Hopkins on piano. This lineup is known for blending rock, blues, and jazz elements. The critics also cited this album as a big step to heavy metal and hard rock.
This was before The Faces with Wood and Stewart. Rod Stewart did some of his best vocals with this band. Spanish Boots was written by Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, and Ronnie Wood. The song appears on Jeff Beck’s album Beck-Ola, released in 1969. Beck-Ola peaked at #39 in the UK, #15 on the Billboard 200, and #22 in Canada.
The album didn’t achieve the same level of commercial success as some of Jeff Beck’s later works but was critically acclaimed. Truth was their debut album, and it was released in 1968. It was a big success and critically acclaimed.
Spanish Boots
I used to work and take a salary
In a hole up near a foundry But it did not take me too long To get my boots on a “So Long!” Long Spanish boots on a “So Long!” I took a day job in Bethlehem I nearly threw in the towel then But it did not take me too long To get my boots on a “So Long!” High Spanish boots on a “So Long!”Dig it
I took a Spanish haberdashery Restored with 15th century tapestry But oh, Mr. Nesbitt got the best of me So I strapped on my boots and said “So Long!” Laced up my high boots and “So Long!”Goodbye
Am on a job you see ‘Cause my old boots they mean too much to me Leather boots are just a mystery Put on my boots and said “So Long!” High Spanish boots on and “So Long!” Put on my boots and said “So Long!” Those old Spanish boots Put on my boots and said “So Long!” High Spanish boots….
Nice to read you back Max. Have not heard this in forever. I can add this to my Mondegreen list as I thought it was Laced up my high boots and “solo” for some reason!

It’s great to be back…I might have to go back there for a few days but it shouldn’t be for this long…
Another song to add to your list!

Good to have you & your posts back! I don’t really know solo Beck other than by reputation, so let’s give this a listen…

Thanks Dave…it’s great to be back…I feel like I’ve been beat lol…a long long 7 days. I will have to go back but only for a few days coming up…
This one is pretty good.

hope those days won’t be so long for you as the past week!
Seems like ultimately Beck maybe doesn’t quite get his due all in all when thinking of good guitarists

No…it should only be for 3 days at the most. Oh I would technically put him over Clapton and just about anyone.

Great seeing you back, Max, and neat pick! That’s when Rod Stewart still was a legitimate rocker before branching out into less than glorious ventures. I’ve listened to “Beck-ola” and some of Jeff Beck’s other music but also feel there’s still lots of ground for me left to cover.

Great to be back…I agree…there is a lot of ground I still need to cover.

Hard rock Beck style. Another person who’s early music grabbed me and made me a lover of this kind of music. Ronnie Wood could play the bass.

I’ve always liked his bass playing…it helped make Maggie May into a classic.

Bass was the first thing I picked up after I listened to your Cream post. Ron did pretty good next to Bruce.

Beck was the greatest. Clapton and Page were great, but they came in behind Beck.

I agree John…technically he was the best. Like Hendrix…he made sounds I never heard before

That was all his hands… I don’t think he ever used a pick.

Wow….I also read where he took guitars apart and monkeyed around with them…

He was an auto mechanic in his spare time, so I’m not surprised.

I have seen some of his hot rods…he was really good.

Definitely an early heavy template. Any group with Nicky Hopkins has to be worth the listen.

He probably played with more of the big artists of the 60s than anyone.

Thanks Lisa…it’s great to be back! We have to go back to Atlanta in the next couple of weeks but only for around 3 days….I’m exhausted! We put in around 73 hours in the past five days….

You’re welcome. I know you didn’t see it but I had a power outage for over 2 days, Tues morning until Thursday night. Glad it’s just a few more days and you got to rest up (hopefully) over the weekend. I know you’re on salary but I hope he gives you and your assistant some kind of bonus.

Oh geez I’m sorry….I know that sucks! We had that for three days last year but I was lucky…it was March and not hot. I hope you were ok and didn’t get too hot.
Oh no…we won’t get a bonus but….I’ll get my days back…believe me lol!
Basically if I stay at home or take a vacation day…and if I get one…just one call…I tell our payroll lady to not count the day…so I get it free.

It wasn’t too hot, which was a blessing. I had bubblers for the fish tank.
Water, eerie silence at night, and phone charging were the stressful parts.
Ah, comp time, yes!

I’m happy that it wasn’t too hot….
right now…I can’t even take my walk…the humidity is so high when you walk outside it takes your breath.
We had a small electric generator that I charged up at work and charged our phones at that time with it.

I’ll go to the library if it happens again. Sorry about the humidity. I remember we took a kid to his dad’s house in southern Ohio to do a home study to see if we could recommend he go to stay with his dad. The humidity was just like you describe. A couple of days of rest after what you’ve been through in GA is called for, not roasting and struggling for breath outside.
