The Pretenders – 2000 Miles

The guitar in this song is haunting…

This song is actually Hynde’s tribute to guitarist and founding band member James Honeyman-Scott, who died of a drug overdose in 1982 at the age of 25.

“2000 Miles” was released as a single in December of 1983 and appeared as the 10th track of The Pretenders’ Learning to Crawl album. The single was popular in the UK, where it peaked at #15 on the UK Singles Chart. Learning to Crawl peaked at #5 in the  Billboard 200 albums chart.

In 2014, while finishing up her album Stockholm, Hynde collaborated with Bjorn Yttling on an updated version of “2000 Miles. It was released as a Christmas single in the UK that December.

      1. I looked at this song, because in 64 more posts I will reach the milestone of 2,000. The only other song that I found with 2000 was 2000 Blues by ZZ Top. I will keep looking for something better as this is to much about Christmas and the ZZ Top song is about the year 2000.

      2. 2000 Man by the Rolling Stones and Kiss did a version…I don’t like Kiss but it was a good version. That would be perfect Jim…

  7. I don’t believe I’ve heard this song, but because it is dedicated to a band member who od’d, I’ll have to check it out. You see, my daughter od’d two months into her 25th birthday. She left this plane of existence – and with no “daddy” my wife and I now raise our granddaughter.
