I was a teenager through the eighties and this movie brought it all back, good and bad. I liked this movie. Adam Sandler is not overboard crazy in this film and Drew Barrymore is perfect in her part. The movie was released in 1998.
The first time I watched this movie I started to get nostalgic over the 80s…something I don’t do a lot.
Adam Sandler can go overboard in a lot of his movies…more than I personally like but like I said, in the beginning, he acts more like a regular person in this. Drew Barrymore…is just Drew Barrymore and a higher compliment cannot be given by me. Adam and Drew work well together in this movie and they do have chemistry.
Adam plays Robbie Hart, a down and out Wedding singer who only wanted to be married. His fiance just left him and Drew plays Julia Sullivan who is herself engaged and wants the depressed Robbie to help her plan her wedding.
This movie is not great…it’s no classic film but if you want a fun romp through the 80s this will bring a lot back for you…if you remember that decade. It’s a great movie to watch on a rainy afternoon.
The Soundtrack to this film has the 80s covered quite well.

I paraphrase, but I loved the “take off my Van Halen t-shirt before you break up their band too” line. It’s a feel-good movie if anything, and the music is the best part 🙂

That was a great quote.
I liked Love Stinks and the “original” song he sang and he broke down…. fun movie.

Man- that is 21 years old itself now! I liked the movie a lot, and like you say, very good soundtrack. Great cameo from Billy Idol, nice to see him be able to poke fun at himself. Like you, I find Drew pretty watchable and thought Adam was good in this. Only other movie by him that I really liked was “Punch Drunk Love’, which was quirky but I thought fairly good and again, not an over the top performance from him. Funny- I loved SNL in the Sandler days but I haven’t cared all that much for any of the careers of the show’s stars post-SNL (thinking along lines of Sandler, Spade, Miller, etc)

That was a good period in SNL… I liked that movie also with Sandler.
This movie caught the spirit of the 80s really well

lol…If I had a celebrity crush…it would be her. It is a fun movie though…they got the 80s down.

What is it about her that makes her so irresitable to you? Just curious.

Two things… One, the first girl I ever really liked in school…6th grade in 1979 looked like her…and I like her hippy flowery personality.

I’ve never seen this. I can’t take Adam Sandler. Some of his recorded stuff was funny (Lunch Lady Land & something about the Jews) but, his acting? I want to slap him. Drew was cute in ET and was good in Firestarter. Then, she grew up. *yawn*.

Great movie – great soundtrack. Love Jon Lovitz in this film!! Billy Idol’s cameo is awesome too! I can’t even begin to tell you how many couples dance to “I Wanna Grow Old With You” from this movie at weddings!!!

I’ve never seen this one. so I just added it to my watch list. The Psychedelic Furs song is the clincher. It’s only been recently that I’ve learned to appreciate or tolerate Drew Barrymore’s characters, which is probably why I didn’t give this one a chance when it came out. I remember people saying this movie was pretty good.

It’s a feel good movie and Sandler is more normal in this. They get the vibe from the 80s really well.
