During Han’s song draft, fellow blogger Paul picked Caravan off of the album Moondance. I got the album out and enjoyed it yet again. I first got the album in the mid-80s and I count it as one of my favorite albums ever…and it’s not even my favorite Van Morrison album.
The song is one of the most romantic songs ever. Van had recently married his girlfriend Janet Planet (gotta love that name) when he wrote this song. It’s a very popular wedding song, it didn’t work too well though for Van though… Morrison and Janet divorced in 1973.
Her name before she married Morrison was Janet Rigsbee.
The song has been covered many times. Artists to cover this song include Brian McKnight, Ray Charles, Aaron Neville, Helen Reddy, Rod Stewart, Paul Carrack and John Anderson. Canadian vocalist Michael Bublé covered this for the title track of his 2009 album.
Van Morrison’s ex-wife, Janet Planet, now goes by Janet Morrison Minto after marrying her third husband, Chris Minto. She currently operates a beading business in Los Angeles via Etsy. Her shop, Lovebeads, sells uniquely designed necklaces and bracelets. So go and buy some necklaces or bracelets from Janet Planet!
Crazy Love
I can hear her heart beat for a thousand miles
And the heaven’s open every time she smiles
And when I come to her that’s where I belong
Yet I’m running to her like a river’s song
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She’s got a fine sense of humor when I’m feeling low down
Yeah when I come to her when the sun goes down
Take away my trouble, take away my grief
Take away my heartache, in the night like a thief
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
Yes I need her in the daytime (I need her)
Yes I need her in the night (I need her)
Yes I want to throw my arms around her (I need her)
Kiss and hug her, kiss and hug her tight
Yeah when I’m returning from so far away
She gives me some sweet lovin’ brighten up my day
Yes it makes me righteous, yes it makes me whole
Yes it makes me mellow down in to my soul
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
Cool video with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.

So many wonderful versions of this song…Brian McKnight comes to mind, fantastic singer…but, for me, the definitive version is Van Morrison, of course. No matter how many times I tracked it (weddings) I always enjoyed it… and I tracked it hundreds of times.

When I got the album I’d never heard it before…and it stayed with me. I didn’t realize so many people covered it until later I heard it by someone else.
It is a perfect wedding song.

very good song, one of Van’s best I’d say. Curiously perhaps , I first knew the song through a Bryan Ferry cover version that was a b-side of one of his singles in the 80s. That was a very good version too.

I had no clue it was this popular when I first heard it in the 80s…I can’t believe it wasn’t a big hit.

That first side of Moondance is phenomenally good. Probably should have spread the classics out a bit better.

He just couldn’t lose through that period.

No problem…I’ve been listening to it since then. I think the next one I’ll listen to is Tupelo Honey…he had a hell of a streak. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Paul!

I always liked that jam session of Van and Bob in Greece. The voice of the original doesn’t sound like Van at all. I thought I was hearing a cover!

Do you know where the footage of Bob and Van came from? I wonder if it was a documentary? Yea Van was singing a little different with this song.

According my Google search: ‘Dylan and Van Morrison climbed onto the picturesque Hill of the Muses in Athens for a stunning four-song acoustic set that thankfully was captured by cameras for the BBC documentary Arena: One Irish Rover – Van Morrison in Performances’.

I’m backtracking a way back here. When you mentioned Aly Cook in my post about Kasey Chambers back in 2019, Ali got in contact with me. That was nice. https://observationblogger.com/2019/09/21/am-i-not-pretty-enough-kasey-chambers/

Well, thanks to you for mentioning her name , hence her posting on the article. Have you had artists of songs you posted make contact?

Yes…a like but not a comment. Justin Heyward of the Moody Blues…I did have an artist from a seventies power pop band say hi. That is so cool that she did that!

Nice Max. That must have been something. I always wished Kasey wrote to me. Maybe someday like the Dylan song. Haha
