Guadalcanal Diary – Ghosts On The Road

Ghosts On The Road was on their first LP Walking in the Shadow of the Big Man released in 1984. So far this will be the third song I’ve posted from Guadalcanal Diary and all three have been on this album. I will be getting this album soon. My next post by them will be a selection from a different album…but I know of 2 more on this album that this album that I will post in the future.

Walking in the Shadow of the Big Man drew a huge response from college radio and critics and college radio programmers. That in turn got the attention of the big labels. In 1985 Elektra Records signed them and reissued the album. More touring followed, as did a cameo appearance in a comedy called Rockin’ Road Trip playing Ghosts Of The Road.

The band formed in the early eighties in  Marietta, Georgia. They broke up in 1989. They would reform in 1997 but didn’t release any more new material.

Give this band a listen…you may like them.

  1. just listening to this now… a new one to me, but sounds good. I really like Guadacanal Diary… need to add this album to my collection (as you know, I have two later ones by them). One wonders if they wouldn’t have hit it fairly big had they stuck around a year or two longer, as alt rock gained so much more commercial acceptance in 90s. But they felt the time was right to stop, so who’s to argue

  4. Sounds pretty cool, Max. I also sampled some of the other tunes on that album.

    Peculiar band name though – and not the easiest to remember, unless I suppose you’re into World War II history…

    The Animals, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones and, of course, The Beatles – these are easy names to remember!

  7. This sounds familiar. I think I may have heard this in Durham in Poindexter Records (defunct, now) on 9th Street (Duke stomping ground). When listening, again, I flashed to looking thru albums & CDs. Guadalcanal Diary CDs were plentiful there.

    I miss the Durham from the middle 90s. GOD. The music, the food…

    1. I really have become a fan of this band. Most of their songs are so likable. That does sound like a cool time. Record shops yeah they were cool.

      1. We have a record shop, here (I did a post about it…you might remember) but, he’s turned into a maskhole. I look in his windows and, a good portion of the time, he is in his store, alone, with a mask on his face. SMDH.
