Now I’m in my car, I got the radio on, I’m yellin’ at the kids in the back seat
‘Cause they’re bangin’ like Charlie Watts
John Hiatt is a great songwriter and performer. I like a lot of his catalog. Slow Turning came out in 1988 along with his album of the same name. John has written some songs made popular by other artists…songs such as Angel Eyes, Sure As I’m Sitting Here, and Thing Called Love.
Slow Turning peaked at #22 in the Billboard Alternative Charts. The album peaked at #98 in the Billboard Album Charts.
I have heard this song since it was released and I thought it would have been higher in the charts. Hiatt is a great artist and if you have already check him out.
Slow Turning
I thought it just came to ya’
But I never could tell what’s mine
So it didn’t matter anywayMy only pride and joy
Was this racket down here
Bangin’ on an old guitar
And singin’ what I had to sayI always thought our house was haunted
But nobody said boo to me
I never did get what I wanted
Now I get what I need
[Chorus:]
It’s been a slow turnin’
From the inside out
A slow turnin’
But you come about
Slow learnin’
But you learn to sway
A slow turnin’ baby
Not fade away
Now I’m in my car
I got the radio on
I’m yellin’ at the kids in the back seat
‘Cause they’re bangin’ like Charlie Watts
You think you’ve come so far
In this one horse town
Then she’s laughin’ that crazy laugh
‘Cause you haven’t left the parkin’ lot
Time is short and here’s the damn thing about it
You’re gonna die, gonna die for sure
And you can learn to life with love or without it
But there ain’t no cure
There’s just a…
[Chorus]
You don’t hear much about him anymore i know he’s still out there though. I have all his albums up until the early 2000’s- if you get a chance to see him live do so..

I’ll keep that in mind. He came out with a song a few years ago called Window of the World which is the best thing I’ve heard from him in a while.

Will look at one up.

Not a bad sound, but not a song I’m familiar with. Then again, I know his name, but don’t think I could have told you any of his songs.

Bonnie Raitt owes him big…Thing Called Love… Must have been a regional thing…I’ve heard it since it was released.

I like this tune and definitely much too little about John Hiatt. I saw in one of your previous comments you already mentioned Bonnie Raitt who I dig big time. And as noted, she’s done a number of tunes written by Hiatt. I guess “Thing Called Love” is probably the best known one. Another great Hiatt song Raitt covered is “Lover’s Will.”

I was going to post Raitt’s version of Thing Call Love but then this song popped into my head.
If you like Hiatt give a listen to a song he had a few years ago called “Window on the World”…good song.
He is a good writer.

Will definitely check him out.
Have you ever heard of Little Village, the super-group that featured Hiatt, Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner?
They only released one album in 1992. It’s great!

He opened for Robert Cray the night I saw him, and he really rocked the joint. This song got a huge reaction.
