Temptations – Since I Lost My Baby

Smokey Robinson and Warren Moore wrote this wonderful song. The Temptations and the Supremes were huge Motown artists in the sixties…they were one of the very few American artists who challenged The Beatles.

The writing of “Since I Lost My Baby” happened with Pete Moore, a member of the Miracles…a songwriting team that delivered other memorable hits for The Miracles, including “Ooo Baby Baby,” “The Tracks Of My Tears,” “My Girl Has Gone” and “Going To A Go-Go.” For the Temptations, the two also created “Fading Away,” “It’s Growing” and “No More Water In The Well.” For Marvin Gaye, they authored “Ain’t That Peculiar” and “One More Heartache.”

The lead vocals were by  David Ruffin and Melvin Franklin.

The song peaked at #17 in the Billboard 100 in 1965.

  1. When The Temptations start harmonizing, magic happens. I don’t think you can beat these guys vocally.

    Have you ever heard their rendition of “Silent Night” – yep, the Christmas song? It’s so beautiful it can make you cry!

    1. No I haven’t…I have to check that out. Silent Night…I think it’s one of the best songs ever written.

      1. Nowadays when you go to an oldies concert, you’re seeing maybe one of the originals, usually a survivor, because most of the others are either dead or too sick to perform anymore. Kind of tragic, really.

      3. Chicago’s down to three original members; Blood Sweat & Tears have no original members; and the only member of the current Guess Who was a recent replacement. Very strange…

      4. The Stones are one of the few who are close, The Who only have two, and Lynyrd Skynyrd only has one.
        I’m trying to think if anymore has all? REM would if they regroup but there aren’t many.

      6. Riefin was a member but not the original…I would never say never with any band. They are about the only ones with all 4 alive.

        The reason I say that…I’ve seen Townshend say no more…the eagles say no…I never believe them lol

      9. I was lucky, saw them 5 times, each show very good though the first one (Monster tour) was the least impressive, probably because they were tired and Berry was just back after nearly dying.

      10. Bill Riefin was a friend of theirs, and showed up on a tour or two but wasn’t a member nor really a “regular”. Guitarist Scott McCaughey is the only one who really fit that bill, as they had him along for most of their tours from Monster on.
        They say they won’t get back together but I wouldn’t be surprised… they all get along OK, Berry DOES still drum, albeit rarely, at times in last couple of years Mills & Buck have worked together, Stipe and Mills have toured twice for promotional work and they still have an active office back in Athens. Honestly, I’ll be surprised if they DON’T regroup, although I expect it will be only for a limited tour or maybe a big benefit show (hell, although not proposed, would anyone be surprised to see a ‘Live Aid’ style concert for Corona virus as soon as it would be possible to get crowds together again?).

  7. A good song, not high on my list of Temptations hits, but I don’t think they put out a BAD single in their first 15 years or so. Great talent. Gord Berry might have been difficult, but he sure could find talent.
