Ringo Starr – Oh My My

I had this single as a kid from a cousin. The song was off of the 1973 Ringo album that was his most successful album. Three of his former bandmates helped contribute to this album. It contained Photograph, You’re Sixteen, and this one that were hit.

Lennon jokingly sent a telegram to Ringo after the success of this album and said: “Congratulations. How dare you? And please write me a hit song.”

The song peaked at #5 in 1974 in the Billboard 100.

  1. That was a great album -it’s a shame that things kind of went downhill after that. He had a great start to his solo career- as far as singles go and this album I’d place high on my best Beatles solo albums list.

      1. I certainly think lifestyle was a big part- he was having a lot of fun in the 70’s- and maybe he was satisfied with what he had done with the hits he had. Overall I’d have to say he had more success than a lot of people would have predicted as a solo artist.

      2. He did have more success than the other three and the public probably thought. I’m sure you have seen the Lennon interview on the Tom Synder show…it really showed how they cared for each other when John said he was at first worried about Ringo and what he would do.

  2. Oh, my, that’s funny what John Lennon said! He had that wicked sense of humor.
    By the way, maybe you already received my reply, but the reason my blog is private for now is because I’m editing it. It will be public again very soon, perhaps today. Just to give you a heads-up, there won’t be as many Jimi Hendrix photos, because I don’t want to infringe on the copyrights. But the original articles will still be there, so there’s plenty to read. 🙂

      3. Oh, it’s okay. Everybody’s busy sometimes. Thanks a lot for being patient. I’m new to blogging, so there will be a few bumps in the road right now, but it’s all coming together.

      4. Oh it will be fine. The thing is to stay patient and pick the right times to post. The mornings are usually the best and dont’ get discouraged. I’ve seen a lot have really good blogs and then they give up.

      6. Yes keep going. Blogging has helped me as an outlet and also my writing skills. I am shy also believe it or not…In person I don’t say much… Hardly ever do you get people being critical on blogs…not on the stuff you and I blog on.

        Also…just because you don’t get a lot of readers now doesn’t mean down the road someone won’t read what you wrote. Now my first blogs are getting read. I got no one at first…I was too timid to comment…Now I reply to comments all day lol.
        That is why I don’t touch politics with a ten foot pole.

      7. Oh, I can definitely relate to that. I didn’t know you were shy like me. Well, as Emily Dickinson said, there’s two of us. 🙂
        I guess even if people did get critical of some of the afterlife stuff I write about, it wouldn’t stop me from writing. Some things I just have to express.
        You’re right, blogging is a very good outlet. It helps to release thoughts and ideas you have, and it really does improve writing skills.

      8. We all have different beliefs and all of that. I like to hear everyone’s belief. If I agree or don’t doesn’t mean it’s true either say.
        A question if you don’t mind….are you a real teacher teacher? LOL I mean a school teacher?

        Just say what you mean…if people don’t like it….no one makes them read

      9. Lol! No, I’ve never taught in a school or anything. I used to pretend to be a teacher when I was a kid, though. I’ve always had a teacher’s mindset, I guess. I love to help people learn things, I’ve always been like that. 🙂

      12. I’m from and live near Nashville. I’ve worked hard to lose my accent and we are not known for correct grammar lol.

      13. Well, one of the best ways to learn grammar is by doing a lot of reading. You can read really good old books or novels, and see how the sentences flow. And you might pick up some good grammar from the posts on Jimi Heaven.

      14. I do read a lot. Since I was 8 in 1975 I’ve been a Beatles fan. Read every thing about the Beatles I could get my hands on… For the longest I thought you spelled the word color as colour and etc…the British spelling. I still do some.
        I sure will pay attention!

      15. Oh, that’s great! I love the Beatles, too. I went through a phase when I was a kid where I became “Beatled out” because I heard so many Beatles songs, but then in my teenage years I went back to listening to them. I was amazed by how many great songs they have, I just couldn’t stop listening. I really love the Beatles songs, especially “In My Life” and “If I Fell”.

      16. I was just as interested in their story as with their music. It was like fate got them together. If one thing would have sent sideways…none of it would have happened.
        Their music is timeless for sure.

      17. You’re right, the stars just lined up for the Beatles. I was learning some of their story a while ago, although I don’t know it as well as Jimi’s story. But I do know that Paul and John met by chance at a picnic or some kind of gathering. Imagine if they hadn’t met that day. They probably would never have become friends, and then they wouldn’t have written songs together. I’m sure glad they both went to the picnic!

      18. Both of their mothers passed also…if one wouldn’t have died…history would have changed. Meeting their manager Brian Epstein….who was honest in the 60s…was rare…and he loved them.
        The Jimi moment I think of is when he played at Brian Epstein’s theater and opened up with Sgt Pepper before it was released.

      19. Oh, yeah, that’s a historic moment. 🙂 That’s a really big part of history. Paul felt really honored when Jimi performed Sgt Pepper. Paul wasn’t expecting it, but he felt that was the biggest honor he could ever have.
        Jimi’s corvette is missing? I hope he didn’t crash it. Poor Jimi, he couldn’t see well when he was driving, but he refused to wear glasses, so he was always crashing his cars.

      21. Well, I don’t know if I can do that because of copyright laws (sigh). The Hendrix estate is really serious about those copyright laws. But if I happen to read about where the corvette disappeared, I will definitely let you know. You might be able to find the Woodstock guitar on the internet. Just double-check to make sure you can use the photo.

      22. Speaking of the estate…do you think they treated Leon right? I know he was in trouble for a while but he seems to be clean now…I hope he is alright.

      23. Oh, yes, as far as the estate goes, as the present moment they’re still not treating Leon well at all. I really feel for him. He’s Jimi’s blood brother, he ought to have some part of the estate. Jimi loved his brother very much, and he wanted to make sure Leon was on the right track in life.
        Some of the other Hendrix family members wished that Leon had been treated more fairly.
        The good thing is that Leon is clean now, as far as I know. He has his own band which is inspired by Jimi’s music. I think he’s on a good path. Leon doesn’t let the estate bother him too much. He says what really matters to him is being Jimi’s brother and having that kind of close connection with him.

      24. I’m glad you agree with me. I was seething with rage when I read some of his story. I know he had his troubles…but how would anyone like having a brother like Jimi to be compared to? Jimi would have wanted him taken care of.

      25. Exactly, I know I meant to pause here, but I have to say one more thing. I absolutely agree with you. Leon went through his troubles, but the important thing is that he didn’t stay that way. He became clean and he turned over a new leaf. I think the estate, in my opinion, is just being far too controlling right now. Jimi wanted his music to be a universal thing, not a money-maker.
        I felt intuitively that Leon is a really nice guy, when I saw his interview. I could tell he loved and respected his brother very much. I think Leon also has a non-profit foundation to help children. He really is a lot like Jimi in some ways, really helpful and laid-back.
        Jimi would have wanted Leon to have some part of the estate, but I think Jimi’s probably proud of his younger brother for soldiering on and making the best of the situation. At the end of the day, material wealth doesn’t last forever, but character does.
        All right, I’ll stop there for now. 🙂

      27. Oh, here’s an update. I did a quick search on the missing Corvette. It turns out that no one knows where that car is. Jimi crashed the blue Corvette he had, but his other Corvette, the missing one, is still a mystery. However, it’s possible that the missing car was sold to pay expenses as part of his estate after he passed away.
        That might be a hard car to find if it was sold. Maybe you’ll have to try something less mysterious. 🙂

A very fun and likable song I remember well but you just don’t hear (except for old Casey Kasem shows I guess). when we had cable TV here (ditched it this past winter for over-the-air and Netflix and hulu et al) we had an all-’70s music channel I had on quite a bit. Even there I never heard this one.
    Funny eh, around that point it would’ve seemed Ringo might do as well in record sales as any of the Beatles. Of course, Paul and John’s careers took off more and Ringo not so much. But his All-Starr band is a cool idea and probably gives him more happiness than trying to write new hit songs does lately

      Yea he has spread out thin at this time with acting also. He was on a hot streak but didn’t capitalize on it. And….Keith Moon, Harry Nillson, and Ringo were causing havoc at this time.
      The All-Starr Band is a great idea and more older artists…heck newer artists should do it. If you get a chance… go see one. It’s like a sample platter…you get a little bit of everyone. I think I told you…the night I went was his birthday and Joe Walsh came out…it’s on youtube from 2012 at the Ryman.

  6. I recall reading an interview with Alex Van Halen years ago and the interviewer asked him who his favourite drummer was. AVH said ‘Ringo, not for his drumming but getting the chicks!”

    1. LOL… Ringo was like a metronome… People say why he wasn’t wilder on drums…but in Beatle songs his drumming fit. Keith Moon or John Bonham wouldn’t have worked in the Beatles.

      But yea….Ringo married a Bond Chick!

      2. LOL….I thought you were coming back at me… Look him up Vic…he is an artist also. He drew the Revolver cover…. There were rumors when Paul quit the Beatles he was going to replace him…he played on all the other Beatles solo stuff but Pauls of course.
