Robert Plant – In The Mood

Songs can mark certain times in your life. When this one plays I remember my first car. It was a 1966 Mustang…not a good idea to give a classic car to a teenager.

I remember hearing this for the first time driving and thinking that this was not the same Robert Plant that a few years before was in Led Zeppelin. He was more subdued and you could tell he was changing his image a bit. The guitar is what stands out to me in this repetitive song. It had an elastic sound to it.

The song peaked at #39 in the Billboard 100 in 1984. I’m In The Mood was on The Principle fo Moments album which peaked at #8 in the Billboard album charts in 1983. I’m In The Mood was written by Robert Plant, Robbie Blunt, and Paul Martinez.

  3. neat how some songs can do that – take you right back to a place and time. I like this song, I keep thinking it was the Honeydrippers but evidently not. There are times when I like solo Robert better than Zep… all depends on the “mood” I’m in.

  4. Jack & Diane by Mellencamp is one that is powerful in my memory. “Holdin’ on to 16 as long as you can…” I was 16 when it came out.

    I live this song. I really like music where a guitar sounds like it is being played underwater…like Chris Issac.

    1966 Mustang, huh? I didn’t get a car until I was 18 & it was a 1977 Civic. One of my classmates had a ’66 Mustang…and still has it.

    1. I remember Jack and Diane well…I wasn’t 16 but I got it at the time. I was weird then…I knew that I was at a great age and it wasn’t always going to be like that.
      Yep 66 Mustang. I ran it into the ground… It was on it’s last legs when I got through with it….I learned to drive a standard in a little yellow Honda Civic…they were cute short cars.

      1. My Civic was metallic gold…my vanity plate said “Goldust”. Yes, it was a reference to Fleetwood Mac, too. I had a buddy that was a year ahead of me in HS. He was heading to Air Force boot camp. He said he wanted to take my Civic with him and play with it in the barracks (he made hand gestures like he was dribbling a basketball). Smartass.

        When my mom bought the car, she made me responsible for the payments. Then, I had to get my buddy Sheree to teach me how to drive my own car. She’d been driving a stick since she was 16.

      2. LOL yea…I can see why he said that. I’m not a manly man I don’t guess…I like cute cars…there I said it. That is why I like Mini Coopers.

        My mom bought me the Mustang…1000 dollars. Every car that followed of course I bought. I don’t know how the hell she afforded it.

      3. I would love to drive a Mini Cooper. I always remember that guy in the parking lot when I was an Examiner. He was a Brit & his Mini’s vanity plater said ‘Tardis’. I understand they corner like Vettes. Me & the Civic had fun but, it was on its last legs.

        Reading & writing all this…your remark about cute cars brought back a memory. I used to have a stuffed, dark brown, furry Volkswagen bug (beetle). It came from a dealership when my parents were car shopping in the early 70s. It had a face with eyebrows. I don’t remember what I did with it but, I had that thing on my bed for decades. I haven’t thought about that in a long while…

      4. The mini cornered better than any other car I ever had…I looked for curvy roads to drive it down. The only car I had to come close was the RX7.
        That sounds cool…and from a dealer. I do like Volkswagen…I like the dune buggys they make and I like just regular Volkswagens.

      My favorite thing he did was with Alison Krauss… also some of the Honeydrippers.
