The Rolling Stones – The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man

Not the most well-known song by the Stones but a lot of American’s owned it. I bought the single Satisfaction in 1979 and flipped it over and found this oddly named likable song. This was the American B side to Satisfaction. Not exactly Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out but a likable single all the same. The song was released in 1965.

The Stones recorded this in Chess studios in Chicago.

The song is about George Sherlock who was the London Records promotions man who accompanied the Stones to California. This was their response to having basically a chaperone.

  1. A great song. I would love to see a tour where The Rolling Stones covered songs from Out of Our Heads, Aftermath and Between The Buttons- instead of the tired old set list they have been doing for the past decades. If I hear Start Me Up one more time…..

    1. And you know what? They could get by with it because they are the Stones. It would be a refreshing way to end it. Just do the Brian Jones period.

      1. I think the odds are long on that happening- they have a winning formula they won’t disrupt it. I love those songs on those albums because they aren’t played to death!

      3. They have enough great tunes to drop everything they have and play 30 different songs and still put on a great show. What do they play pre- 1968? Satisfaction?

      4. Maybe Paint It Black on a good night. I would gladly go to see them and not hear Satisfaction or Jumping Jack Flash…love the songs but…yea

      5. Yes I would be willing to sacrifice.. and its like they want to focus on the post- Brian era- starting when he had lost his influence.
