Rolling Stones – Before They Make Me Run

  • A great “Keith” song on the great Stone’s album Some Girls released in 1978. Some of the lyrics make me laugh because of how honest they are. Maybe one of the best lines in Rock “I wasn’t looking too good but I was feeling real well”… It doesn’t get much more straightforward than that.
  • Some of the others are not so fun such as “Booze and pills and powders, you can choose your medicine, Well here’s another goodbye to another good friend.” In the world where Keith was living, it rang true. I’ve read this line was about Keith’s good friend Gram Parsons who had died of a heroin overdose in 1973.

Keith recorded this song in 1978, a year after he was busted for heroin in Canada.

This and Happy are my favorite Keith Richards songs with the Stones. You Got the Silver is up there also.

Great raw Rock and Roll song.

  1. One of the best songs on my first Rolling Stones ‘new’ album. I had Hot Rocks at the time. Forty years later I still remember buying it. Me and a friend took a bus to the Pirates game. We had to catch the bus afterwards right across from the National Record Mart- in downtown Pittsburgh. For 4.99 each I got Some Girls and Bob Dylan’s Street Legal [my first ‘new’ Dylan album also}….. the song was perfect for Keith’s situation at the time…. I must say forty years ago If I had found a dollar lying on the street I wouldn’t have bet it -no matter what the odds on Keith being alive in 2018….and here he still is.

    1. Albums can be landmarks in your life. Listening to them now can take you back to where you were at the time.
I don’t think he would have thought he would be living. He must have some kind of DNA makeup.

      1. All the songs are good on Some Girls.
My first “new” Stones album was Emotional Rescue but the one that impacted me the most was Tattoo You when I got it new. It’s a hodge podge but some fun rock like Hang Fire, Little T&A… What I remember the most was how big Start Me Up sounded…the riff was massive sounding
